Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk
Robben Ford, whose album Blue Moon is a typically hard-hitting modern blues-and-soul collection, has one of the most bewitchingly loose-limbed and attractive guitar tones in the business. Coupled with his effortless technique and penchant for honest-to-goodness blues phraseology, that makes him one of the most pleasing guitarists on the circuit. The fact that he's a decent singer and accomplished songwriter, as well as an eagle-eyed spotter of talent for his supporting bands, means you've got a pretty safe bet that he's going to serve up superior blues-drenched music with a light dose of modern soul. Blue Moon delivers on the bet, being a beautifully produced, lean and hungry set of performances that never strays far from the mother lode. It doesn't matter whether the drummer is Vinnie Colaiuta or Tom Brechtlen, the bassist Roscoe Beck or Jimmy Earl, each performance cooks, and not a note is wasted. With a blues style that is both modern and traditional and production values that are second to none, this is a very welcome release indeed. --Keith Shadwick

Robben Ford can really play the guitar and his smooth voice make listening to these songs a pleasure. Love his music. I have several of his CD's which are hard to get in a store so Amazon is the place to shop.

Blue Moon, my review from Barcelona

I've got most Robben's Ford discography and telling the truth is very very good since he started with THE CHARLES FORD BAND following with contributions with his brothers PATRICK and above all with MARK and finishing with the already very extensive discography under his own name is really a pleasure to listen this so peculiar MODERN ELECTRIC BLUES where he blends several concepts of this music environment as is JAZZ-FUSION and BLUES-ROCK among others. This record 'Blue Moon' as all his others you must listen it with attention to grasp the lot of quality the record emits and the great guitar work that on the other hand is already usual and gets very high level as ever.
As a vocalist he favors an exciting blend of Blues, Blues-Rock and Soul mainly on tracks like "Something from the pain", "Don't deny your love" and Big Maceo Merriweather's "The way you treated me". Also has more Jazz tinged vocals offering on tracks like the superb Willie Dixon's "It don't make Sense (You can't make peace)" or "Make me your only one" another jewel. Another wonderful song is that the open the record Little Walter's "Up the line" and I want to tell that "Good to love" I like it very much is a special song. This is not a Blues purist record but it keeps the basic roots. In a short words great stuff, exceptional performance and highly recommended. I give it 4,5 stars.

another great jammin' buddy

I've had this cd for a few years and really like it. Sure, not every tune is perfect but darn close.

Some people pick on Robben's vocals but I think thats BS. To me his voice fits what he plays, and Peter Green to me is another example of this. I mean what do you want,a strainiac like BonJovi, Axl Rose or Daughtry??? No thanks.(Anyone who is looking for insturmental Robben may want check out "Tiger Walk". More funky than blusey but still a solid cd).("Update time-4/3/08"-I took my wife to see Bon Jovi and Daughtry last night at the HP Pavillion and both acts were outstanding.)

If you play guitar do yourself a favor buy this, give it a listen, dial up a nice fat tone and believe me two seconds into track one you'll be smilin' and jammin' with it and just about every track on this cd.I know because I do.

Great guitarist with a terrible voice. I can't beleive someone hasn't broke the news to Robben that HE CAN'T SING FOR S**T. At least Joe Satriani got a clue. Some artists who suffer from this affliction have learned to limit the damage by accentuiating the positive but not Robben. Too bad because, again, he is a very gifted guitarist with who feels the rhythm and soul of the guitar. I wouldn't buy more of his stuff right now.

When is the tour?

Perhaps not excellent, but still a really good record from Robben Ford. Like most of RF's albums, it keeps getting better each time you listen to it.
